The table lamp Mantis by Bernard Schottlander, a German-British designer and sculptor, was designed in 1951. The curved shape of the reflector shade in the field of tension between symmetry and asymmetry, combined with the gracefully balanced frame, gives the lamp its typical appearance.
Thanks to its generously proportioned shade, the lamp casts a wide beam of light. The inclination of the arm can be adjusted in four steps by changing the position of the counterweight. In addition, the table lamp can be rotated through 360 degrees, so that the light falls where it is needed.
What I like most about the 'Mantis' is the contrast between the very filigree frame and the larger shade, which balances on the lower part. Almost like a mobile, but a luminous one.
All in all a beautiful lamp series, which was reissued by the French company DCW Éditions.
