Sofa The Spoke-Back

Børge Mogensen and Hans J. Wegner, both born in 1914, were colleagues and friends, and the two Danish designers worked together on a number of exhibition projects. One of these was the annual Copenhagen Cabinet Makers Guild Exhibition in 1945, where Mogensen and Wegner designed and presented 'A House for the Future'.

The focus of Mogensen and Wegner's stand was the living room, where they presented a new vision for light and functional furniture. Although celebrated for its innovation, the 'Spoke-back' series was also considered too sophisticated for the modest post-war culture, and the 'Spoke-back' sofa did not go into production until 1963.

The furniture realized Mogensen's idea of a sofa with a reclining side and was originally issued without back cushions, and the exposed wood construction is typical of both Mogensen and Wegner.

In my shop, however, you will find the sofa with the cushions in the color of your choice. The wooden construction is available in three different oak variations.
