Forest glass by 'Atelier Volvox'

No, no, I have not mistyped. However, I also had to look twice: Forest glass was the name given to the first utility glass manufactured north of the Alps. They were made in forest glassworks, because only in the forest was there enough fuel for the furnaces in which the glass was melted.

Due to the natural iron oxide content in the quartz sand, their color was always greenish, and often the glass was contaminated and had air bubbles. The old glasses were decorated with nubs, ribs or glass threads, and in many varieties the bottom was cone-shaped pressed against the inside.

This cone in the bottom of the glass, the color and the air bubbles are the elements from the history of forest glass, which 'Atelier Volvox' has adopted for the design of its glasses.

The drinking glasses are handmade in the Czech Republic; each one is shaped a little differently and the air bubbles distributed differently; giving each glass its own unique character.

Bring these exciting pieces home and liven up your table with a whole lot of history and soul. Because each forest glass is a decorative and beautiful creature.
