Mobiles are, to their sorrow, nowadays almost only to be found in the children's room above the baby's bed or the changing table. Wrongly so! Because there are definitely adult models that bring movement and object character into our rooms.
The 'Plymood Mobile' is one of my absolute favourites. As the name suggests, it is made of aircraft plywood. This has been painted black. And then these shapes - in both of the two versions Charles & Ray Eames, the design duo behind the mobiles play with organic shapes. The cult mobiles are strongly reminiscent of Ray's artwork and prints, which the artist couple hung in their home in Los Angeles.
Designed at the beginning of the 40s, they are so up-to-date that I would absolutely like to hang such a beautiful piece on my ceiling.
