Wooden vessel 'Blue

Blue' is a vessel for dried flowers; a vase made of wood. It is made, so to speak, from the same grown and dried plant material as the dried flowers are themselves.

It is handmade by the turner of 'Atelier Volvox'.

The blue discoloration is caused by a chemical reaction of metal salts with the tannic acid contained in the wood; a property that is also used, among other things, in the vegetable dyeing of textiles. More than two thousand years ago, a very durable ink was produced in the same way using gall apples rich in tannins and iron sulfate.

The discoloration on the vase varies depending on the type of wood and tells us something about the ingredients of the wood.
