The “Barkroll” paper towel holder is manufactured at the plant in Crusinallo, Omegna. The process begins with cutting the sheet steel to size and perforating it with a laser; it is then shaped through several mechanical steps and finally welded. The paper towel holder is reminiscent of a tree’s bark: The perforated pattern echoes the grain and knots of wood, while the cylindrical shape evokes the structure of a tree trunk. The result is a poetic yet functional object that—as its designers emphasize—reminds us every time a sheet is torn off that paper is made from trees.
