Boho-chain with pendant

The Makery's from Johannesburg. Behind the label are Heidi Gresty and Jacquie Myburgh Chemaly. The heart of her collection are the long necklaces, which consist of differently coloured small pearls and are decorated with pendants. You can wear them in many ways: either once long around your neck, or as a double necklace or bracelet.

Pearl weaving has an old tradition in Africa, which keeps 'The Makery' alive and continues with a contemporary boho feeling.

Part of the talented pearl team are Londi Mweli and Sizani Sithole - the two Zulu women have a wealth of knowledge about making small pearls.

Even though pearl weaving is deeply rooted in Africa, the pearls themselves have always been imported from Asia and have long been used for trading. The colorful pearls of 'The Makery' come from China, Japan and India. The silver, copper and brass beads come from 'Entoto Beth Artisan' in Ethiopia, where a group of women make the beads by hand to support HIV infected people living outside Addis Ababa.
