Arne Jacobsen designed this lamp - as well as many other elements - in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Thanks to the white lacquered inside of its shade, the wall light produces a pleasant, downward-directed light. The shade can also be tilted to adjust the light emission. The AJ luminaire series is probably Arne Jacobsen's best-known design worldwide. In addition to the AJ wall lamp, the AJ lamp series also included a larger and a smaller table lamp, a floor lamp and a fixed table lamp. All of these luminaires were part of the SAS Royal Hotel when it opened in 1960, and the clean, elegant shape of the AJ luminaire with its flawless light could be found throughout the hotel - in copper and stainless steel versions. Together with the AJ Royal, the AJ luminaire range was part of Jacobsen's overall concept for the hotel. Virtually every detail was designed by Jacobsen himself. The straight lines and the combination of straight and curved angles in the design of the AJ luminaire can also be seen in the geometric shape of his buildings.
