The Danish manufacturer “Hay” is known for iconic design products that are functional, distinctive, aesthetically pleasing, and affordable. For Rolf Hay, the company’s namesake and founder, associating the brand with famous designers was never a top priority.
I particularly like that the team behind Hay enjoys taking on archetypal products and then reinterpreting them in their own skillful way—always with that certain something and a very modern twist. With “Apex,” the goal was to reinterpret the well-known banker’s lamp from the Art Deco era.
British designer John Tree combined this archetypal reference with his contemporary, colorful sensibility to create a new, modern lamp series. The pleated steel shades form the silhouette of a pointed roofline, which served as the inspiration for the lamp’s name, “Apex.”
It also creates a beautiful, graphic contrast to the chrome-plated base. The colorful, fully rotatable shade perfectly complements the design of the clamp lamp.
This functional light with an atmospheric character can be perfectly tailored to your specific needs.
It works as a compact light source on your desk, as lighting for your favorite object, or clipped to your nightstand as a dainty reading lamp.
