This quote and the general work of the American-Japanese artist Isamu Noguchi are exceptionally complex. His interest was not only in material and form, but also in spatial impact, and was intended to serve a practical as well as social function. Noguchi's sculptural style exerted a lasting influence on the formal language of organic design in the 1950s.
