Sowden

"Sowden" is the success story of British designer George Sowden, who moved to Milan in 1970, worked at Olivetti, and was one of the founding members of the legendary Memphis movement in 1981. In 2010, he transformed the design studio into his own brand—specializing in lighting and everyday objects for contemporary living. Its most well-known feature is dual functionality: the lights can be used either as fixed fixtures via a USB cable or as portable lamps thanks to a lithium-ion battery. Color, form, and function come together here to create durable design objects made in Milan that have been honored with the Compasso d’Oro and the EDIDA Lighting Award.
