Designed in 1945, the set was initially made of solid brass with a chrome-plated or silver-plated finish and later produced in stainless steel. “The Bombé tableware set is strongly influenced by the sociocultural climate of the postwar period and, as such, represents a specific phenomenon in design and customs associated with the early era of Italian design —with walnut furniture, the curved forms of the Vespa, the Isetta microcar, the first Arflex armchairs, and the typewriters designed by Marcello Nizzoli for Olivetti. From today’s perspective, it also evokes Pop Art and shows clear references to a ‘round’ morphological history of the coffee maker, beginning with Christopher Dresser.” (Alessandro Mendini)
