Children's book 'A garden for us

A little girl cares for the beds in the community garden. A cheerful group of older women has taken her into their circle, because friendship knows no age here. Together they sow and water and wait patiently until their tomatoes, zucchini and pumpkins are ripe for harvesting.

But as the seasons change, so does not only nature, but also the small community: as the days grow shorter, they must say goodbye to a dear friend.

Zoë Tucker writes sensitively about intergenerational friendship, transience, and how nature can give us comfort when we lose a loved one. Julianna Swaney's images capture the colors of nature in the cycle of the seasons and lighten the weight of the subject.
