Overlapping, interlocking and haunting, 'Maceta' brings to life the organic vibrancy of Mexican flora. Local artist Berenice Hernandez has combined terracotta with brown, pistachio, black and white to create an organic and expressive composition.
The soft shapes and vibrant colors are both surreal and calming, uniquely combining Hernadez's hand-painted and graphic approach to form.
Berenice Hernandez's studio is situated between the cool mountains and stifling desert heat of Monterrey in northern Mexico. She draws inspiration from her surroundings to create artwork with vibrancy and color. With a background in art direction and graphic design, she combines her knowledge with themes from her Mexican heritage. Botany is at the heart of her work, brought to life through a mixture of illustration, engraving, painting and textile techniques. The results are abstracted, bold plants and flowers presented with a graphic touch.
