It is ironic that something called 'The Spanish Chair' has become synonymous with Danish design. But the origin of its name and its unmistakable aesthetics make the chair worthy of its reputation.
Børge Mogensen drew much of his inspiration from traditional chairs from other cultures, such as the English Windsor chairs and the Shaker movement in America. In Spain, traditionally robust leather was used in the manufacture of furniture to construct the seat as part of a wooden construction - hence the name that would later be given to one of Mogensen's most famous designs.
Mogensen was an advocate of visual calm, simple lines, strong constructions and natural materials that add an extra dimension of beauty and underline the durability of a design. Principles that underpinned his conviction that good furniture should be enjoyed now and for generations to come.
The Spanish Dining Chair achieves all this and more. With its Danish accent on function-oriented design, durability and the simple, declarative style, it is a modern classic that can easily be imagined as a noble individual piece in the living room or even in the bedroom.
