'Woodnotes' is a Finnish design company founded in 1987 by textile designer Ritva Puotila and her son Mikko Puotila. The label is still owned by its founders.
The original concept of 'Woodnotes' products was to combine artistic creativity inspired by the rugged nature of Finland with valuable craftsmanship and advanced technologies, using the basic Finnish materials of wood and paper. 'Woodnotes' is the first company in the world to use paper yarn in a contemporary way in functional textiles. Ritva Puotila wanted to use paper yarn for its properties: to make the most of its unique characteristics, not as a substitute for other materials.
The Piccolo hand-woven rug, made of cotton and paper yarn, combines the best qualities of these two materials: the paper yarn gives the rug body and rhythm, while the cotton brings warmth and softness. The three-dimensional surface of the rug is lively and feels firm.
Thanks to the smooth surface and dust repellent materials, 'Piccolo' is an excellent rug for allergic households and can also be conveniently used on both sides.
