Royal System shelving system was designed in 1948 by the legendary Danish designer and manufacturer Poul Cadovius. It was one of the first wall-hung furniture systems in the world, and the idea that furniture should not take up floor space was innovative. 'Most of us live on the floor of a cube. If we arrange the walls at the same height as the floor, we get a lot of space to live in' was Poul Cadovius' mantra. There have been many attempts to copy this famous design, but the 'Royal System' remains the original.
The storied shelving unit, which incidentally is considered one of the greatest successes in Danish furniture history ever, consists of wall-mounted wooden rails, shelves with brackets made of brass or stainless steel, and various modules such as cabinets, drawers and desks that can be customized in numerous individual combinations. Poul Cadovius even claimed at the time that the original system offered 16 million possible combinations.
Whether that's true, I don't know. The only thing I do know is that here you will find the 'Royal System' in a wide version consisting of 6 wall rails and 10 shelves. You are looking for something else or need my help? Then just write me an e-mail.
