A long time ago, alabaster was formed by the evaporation of salty water from seas that had retreated. Today it can be found as zentner-sized 'eggs' at depths of up to 300 metres, embedded in gypsum.

The salt can was produced in a craft workshop in Tuscany, in a town where alabaster has been mined and processed for centuries.
